Flourish Interiors is a full-service, award winning interior design company based in South Bend, Indiana. We are dedicated to helping design beautiful homes along the shores of Lake Michigan and in the heart of Notre Dame country: our projects include residences in New Buffalo MI, St. Joseph MI, Michigan City IN, South Haven MI, Niles MI, South Bend IN, Granger IN, Notre Dame IN, Elkhart IN, and surrounding areas.
Meet the Team
Vanessa Cooreman Smith
Owner and Principal Designer
Born and raised in South Bend, Indiana, I am passionate about bringing beauty and excellence to the regional area via interior design. My roots in design can be traced back to my lifelong interest in art, fashion, and inspiring interiors. I attended Saint Mary’s College and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in fine art. Many know me from my earlier career path as the owner of Flourish Boutique, a women’s clothing boutique. In 2016, I shifted to my other passion and launched Flourish Interiors. Since then, I am proud to say that Flourish has evolved to become the premier design choice for luxury home builders, realtors, home owners, and investors in NW Indiana and SW Michigan.
When I am not designing, you can probably find me wearing my mom hat, as I am blessed to have four children. Together with my husband Steve Smith, we also own Irish Realty; so life is always full and busy. But I wouldn’t want it any other way!
Cortney Bruot
Install Manager
My name is Cortney Bruot (pronounced Bree-o). I have been married to my husband, Nathan for eight years. We have two children together, our son Beckham who is six years old and our daughter, Bristol who is two years old. We have one fur baby, Maizey, our seven year old pug.
As the Install Manager, I am responsible for working with our staging team as well as our design team to manage the schedule for any installation work that needs to be completed whether it be for a staged property or a clients property. I get joy from planning get togethers, organizing group events, and staying in touch with my loved ones. The reason why I love working in this field is because it allows me to express myself and my creativity through styling homes. Being that I love to plan and organize, this allows me to do just that as I manage the installation process. Styling, creating, organizing, and delivering a final product at its fullest potential is rewarding. As I quote, “I love turning a mess into a masterpiece”
Heaven Miller
Project Coordinator & Designer
I am the Project Coordinator as well as a Designer here at Flourish. I work with the each client on things like onboarding, project tracking, and making sure all projects are running smoothly. I graduated with a degree in Interior Design from Indiana University and have a background working in the furniture industry. I love that every client and every space has a different personality and the challenge of working towards bringing those two personalities together to achieve a design that works for the space and the client loves.
I recently married my high school sweetheart and am a dog mom to a Pembroke Welsh Corgi that I consider to be my baby. In my free time I enjoy traveling and exploring new places. A few of my other passions include architecture, baking, and reading.
Katie Stutsman
Designer & Project Manager
My name is Katie Stutsman and I am a Designer and Cabinet Specialist here at Designed to Flourish. I live in Goshen, Indiana with my husband, Garrett and our Boston Terrier, Molly. When I am not landscaping or gardening, we love to go camping, hiking, and kayaking. I also can often be found with my nose in a book or in the kitchen baking and cooking.
I graduated with a degree in Interior Design with a focus on kitchen and bath planning. After graduation, I got a job as a cabinet designer and not only learned a lot but also fell in love with that aspect of design. I love custom cabinetry, it really intrigues me and allows my creativity to come to life. Most of my days at Flourish are spent designing kitchens, baths, closets, offices and any other space that calls for cabinetry. My primary focus is to design these spaces functionally as well as make them beautiful.
Olivia Conley
Associate Designer
I am an Associate Designer at Flourish! I work hand and hand with clients from the first walkthrough to every design meeting including presentations, proposal, materials, renderings and the final install date. I focus on the smallest details in a project to elevate the space to be the best it can be, it is also a main focus to give the client what they have always dreamed of.
I graduated from Central Michigan University with a degree in Interior Design, with a minor of Event Management and a focus on space planning. Ever since I was little I was space planning, redecorating and visualizing how you can always improve a space making it more appealing to the eye and increasing functionality. When I design I love using materials that we have seen through the times, taking something traditional and turning into modern day glam, giving a timeless look to any home or space. I love working with human emotions on how they are impacted with colors, space, height, dimension, natural & artificial light and much more. Creating a space that is well balanced and a reflection of the homeowner will give a comfort feeling, making a house into a home.
Kayla Hartley
Associate Designer
My name is Kayla and I am a Junior Designer here at Flourish. I started in March of 2022 and I assist our other designers, as well as work with clients throughout the entire design process to make their visions come to life! I studied Interior Design at Purdue University, and have experience in both furniture sales and design. My favorite thing about being a designer is getting to put my creativity to use everyday.
Ever since I was a little girl I've always loved rearranging my bedroom and watching HGTV with my mom. When I'm not working I love traveling with friends, spending time with my family and our 4 dogs, and enjoying new restaurants and breweries with my boyfriend!
Alli Smiley
Design Assistant
I have a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Indiana Wesleyan University. After several years of jobs that left me feeling hopeless and depleted of my joy, I allowed myself to entertain the thought of leaving social work behind and starting the career path I’ve always dreamt of pursuing: Interior Design.
I have been an aspiring interior designer since childhood. Vanessa took a chance on me, seeing the potential in my skill set, and hired me to be her executive and design assistant. This position keeps me closest to her, a right-hand-man so to speak, a servant heart's dream role!
Outside of work, I am a wife to David, a phenomenal man who encourages me and cheers me on, and I'm a mom to the sweetest son I could dream of, Isaac Henry. I am a huge advocate for all things humor; I am a free-spirited creative, a wine enthusiast, a believer in Jesus, a calligrapher, a (lactose-sensitive) fine cheese connoisseur, and a laugher at my own jokes.
Dany Morales
Installation Associate
My name is Daniela but I go by Dany and I am a Design Assistant here at Flourish. I assist Vanessa and the other designers with projects from attending Project Consults with clients to sourcing selections for home remodels, collaborating on presentations, helping meet deadlines and maintain excellent client relationships. I was born in Mexico City, Mexico and raised in Goshen. I love to travel back to visit my family from time to time. I am a mom of a very active little boy, Mateo Alexander and a cuddly pug Sophie.
After 8 years of customer service experience in clerical and administration work, I finally decided to pursue my passion and started taking online courses. My love for Interior Design comes from the transformation of the process. From creating a level of trust with the clients to designing a beautiful form of expression through texture, color, nature, and art into a home. Stepping outside normal boundaries and creating spaces that a client will fall in love with and never want to leave. A space that not only serves as a function, but also as an inspiration to their lifestyle and self growth.
Megan Vogeler
Junior Designer
My name is Megan Vogeler and I am a Junior Designer at Designed to Flourish. I graduated from IUPUI with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, with a focus in painting, as well as an Associates degree in Interior Design. I have always had an eye for all things creative which grew into a passion when it comes to art and design. On a day-to-day basis I work with clients to design a space they love from floor plan layouts to sourcing finishes and furnishings, create mood boards and renderings to help clients visualize their new space, attend Project Consultations and more.
Ever since I was little I have loved going to art museums, watching home renovation shows, arts and crafts, and anything creative. In high school I opted out of all of my study halls just so I could take an art class and made the choice to have many late nights doing homework after volleyball practice and games, all so I could pursue my passion. I have always been encouraged by my parents and fiancé to follow my heart in doing what I love. I love that I can now pour my creativity into design projects on a daily basis and connect with new clients, while also continuing to pursue my passion for painting in my free time. The creative process never stops, and I am grateful to have the opportunity to pursue my skills in the design field here at Flourish.
Tess Matthys
Human Resources & Office Manager
As the Human Resource & Office Manager at Flourish, it brings me great joy to support our wonderful designers and staff as they espouse beauty for our clients. Born & raised in South Bend, I have a passion for this community and want to see its members thrive. It’s important for me to share my charism for good communication, aligned with my experience in fields such as hospitality, client services, admissions and event management. I have always sought a work environment with people that inspire me to think critically and love whole-heartedly. Flourish Interiors is such a perfect exemplification of this spirit. My favorite thing about working with Vanessa is her intentionality. Together we aspire toward creative leadership & drawing out excellence through an instructive and empathetic approach.
Although I am a Hoosier to my core, I love the West Coast. I have lived in Oregon twice because nothing calls to me like the mountains. Things that feed my soul include cooking, singing (practically every genre of music), decorating my home, being in nature, long conversations with friends, kitchen dance parties, quality time with family and laughing my days away with my wonderful husband.
Davor Tozan
Installer
My name is Davor Tozan, an installer here at Flourish Interiors. I am 34 years old and married to my wonderful wife, who I have been together with for ten years. We have two beautiful daughters. We also have two dogs, Bane and Bella. I am a huge sports fanatic and love to cook up some delicious BBQ. I was born in Bosnia, and moved to the United States with my family when I was 8 years old.
Before coming to Flourish, I spent 7 years working for the St. Joseph County Police Department. I also have experience working with furniture, as I spent two years as a warehouse manager at a furniture store and 3 years as a furniture salesman. My days at Flourish consist of moving, installing, and repairing furniture. I also take care of special client requests and provide precision when executing our concierge services. I love what I do because I enjoy seeing the transformations we, at Flourish, can create. We take pride in going above and beyond for our customers.
Jim Grolemund
Installer
My name is James (Jim) Grolemund. I have been married to my wife Tabatha for 22 years. We have two sons, Christopher (26) & Daniel (19) and a daughter, Evangeline (14) and three grandchildren.
I have a background as a bricklayer & mechanic as well as experience as a Flow Team Trainer at a Big Box Store, overseeing inventory and warehouse organization. As a member of the Installation team at Flourish, I'm responsible for assembling and moving furniture for staged homes and our design client’s properties.
When I'm not working, I enjoy camping with my family, riding mountain bikes with my oldest son or daughter or working in my yard and garden.
The Flourish team has a unique eye for design with an ability to blend styles and cultivate a beautiful range of aesthetics. The Flourish "touch" works whether the home's style is contemporary, transitional, or traditional. We believe in creating spaces that are unique, reflect the home-owner's indivuality, and elegant but comfortable. Their services are customizable and range from consulting to true white glove set up of a stylish and ready to live in home.
